Migrate from Google Analytics without losing history
Run Trakily next to GA4, import up to two years of GA4 history, and switch over without a gap in your charts.
Switching analytics usually means your charts start at zero. With the GA4 import, your history fills in the days before Trakily's own data starts, so year-over-year comparisons keep working.
1. Install Trakily alongside GA4
Add the Trakily script without removing GA4 yet (see the install docs). Running both for a little while lets you check the numbers side by side. Expect some differences: tools count visitors differently, and ad blockers treat them differently.
2. Import your GA4 history
- 1
Open Settings → Integrations → Import and click Connect Google Analytics.
- 2
Allow read-only access, find your GA4 property and click Import this property.
- 3
The import runs in the background, newest months first. You can close the page.
What comes across
Up to two years of daily visitors, sessions, pageviews, bounces and engagement time, broken down by channel, referrer, campaign, entry page, page, country, region, city, browser, OS and device. The import stops the day before Trakily's first event, so no day is counted twice.
Revenue, goals and conversions don't come from GA4. Revenue comes from your payment provider, which imports its own full history when you connect it, so past revenue totals are there from day one.
3. Recreate your key events
List the GA4 key events you actually use and recreate them as Trakily goals, usually with an attribute on the right button:
<button data-trakily-goal="signup">Create account</button>
Set up goals and, if you sell online, connect your payment provider so revenue replaces GA4 purchase events.
4. Switch over
- Once Trakily has been collecting for a while and the numbers look right, remove the GA4 tag.
- The dashboard notes Includes Google Analytics data until … on the chart, and All time reaches back to your imported history.
- Imported days can't be filtered by dimension; while a filter is active, the dashboard shows Trakily's own data only.
- Also on Plausible? You can import a Plausible export too. Where both cover a day, Plausible data is used.
